Easy guide to finding an internship

Personally, I find the internship finding process to be fun, although to others it can be insanely stressful. I love the "hunt", but for those of you that dont, here are a few tips on finding an internship.
The best place to start researching is the Teen Vogue Handbook. It's a guide on how to begin your career in the fashion industry, and helps with preparation for such a profession.
There are also many sources for internships online.
My top 3 are:
Ed2010.com
Freefashioninternships.com
Dailyfashionjobs.com

In addition to these, I suggest making a twitter and following all your favorite companies. It may seem strange that a company would look for an intern off twitter, but its the reality!
I found an internship off of twitter because I followed my favorite store.
Also check on the companies websites for an intern coordinator.
My final tip is: if you want to work for a magazine, and have a favorite editor, email the editor personally, (and professionally!) and you never know where you will end up. I suggest not emailing Anna_Wintour@condenast,.com, as it will automatically become spam.
Or find out who the editors assistant is. As long as you remain professional, you have nothing to lose.

Good Luck!
(Next week will be about how to write a professional email)

Eva Chen loves Bendels

Hey ya'll,

I am trying to get used to this blogging thing. Since I last blogged... I guess in October? I have become a gift wrapper at Bendels. At LIM we need to work a retail position, so I chose Bendels, and I absolutely love it. Getting to see the new merchandise every day and helping customers in any way possible makes my day!
Which I guess is a good thing if I ever really want to work in retail.
When I finally hooked my internet up on Saturday night I found out that Eva Chen (Beauty Editor at Teen Vogue/future boss) went to Bendel's and even took a picture of the gift wrapping station! She commented on how organized it was, and I am super upset that I was not working on that day as I would have completely freaked had I seen her, well I guess it's better that I didnt see her then!
(Unfortunately I cannot include the image as it's from twitpics and blogger.com is too sophisticated for it)

Intern Diaries

Hey ya'll,

So I decided to change my blog up a bit. I am going to be writing about internships, fashion jobs, beauty and fashion. (Not just fashion)
I will be telling stories of interviews, what-to and what-not-to-do.
So if you have any questions post em, and if you need help with anything fashion related just let me know and I'd be glad to help.
The beauty part is a bit random, but I love makeup and am usually aware when there is a new product, and happen to like trying out those new products. So any products you have questions on? Ask Away!

Fashion Week--Marchesa

My favorite dress at Marchesa Spring 2011
Marchesa-A luxury brand I only recently heard of. My friend Virginia was telling me about her prom dress and was explaining how anyone who's anyone wears Marchesa on the runway. So of course, I had to look up this brand! And I found such amazing dresses and became instantly jealous that my friend had the privilege to wear such a dress. Since then anytime I look through the best dressed list in magazines, I always check for Marchesa, and usually, the celebrities are in fact wearing Marchesa!
What I have come to learn about Marchesa is that they make transitions into their new collections. They take pieces from the previous collection and combine certain elements into the new one.
I especially loved this seasons finale, it was much anticipated and they delivered!

DOWN with the Velour and Terry Tracksuits!

Juicy, a company which makes those track suits we all used to love, is
having some problems. Saks, Neimans, Bloomingdales, Bergdorfs, and
Nordstroms have dropped the Juicy line in a few of their stores. We
all knew that something was wrong, just nothing this bad. At first the
co-founders and co-designers Gela Nash-Taylor and Pamela Skaist-Levy
gave up their leadership roles and moved down to "nonoperating
creative roles" at Juicy. Then the company got Erin Featherson to do a
holiday collection for them.
To the loss of Saks Juicy replied "We have a 17,000-square-foot [Juicy
Couture] store at 52nd Street and Fifth Avenue. We’re committed to
Saks, but at the moment, we’re doing everything we can to build up the
business again.” Which is true, why need a Juicy department at Saks
when the Juicy store is right across the street? Bloomingdales along
with Nordstroms and Bergdorfs will all contain some assortment of
Juicy Couture accessories or the Bird collection. In my opinionm they
wont go back to carrying the brand again.

Channeling Batman

The fall trend that I cannot wait to try out is capes. Seriously, they can be done in an incredibly chic way yet at the same time, can be done horribly wrong. Thank god to the fashion fairy who is here to help.
Don'ts:
It is NOT a poncho! It has sleeves! do not mistake a cape for one.
Do not wear it with a long flowy skirt, its too many trends in one and does not look good together. Here are some awesome samples of this up-and-coming trend
Erdem Cape--> Love it

A cute interpretation of the trend for the little ones
