Channeling Batman

The fall trend that I cannot wait to try out is capes. Seriously, they can be done in an incredibly chic way yet at the same time, can be done horribly wrong. Thank god to the fashion fairy who is here to help.
Don'ts:
It is NOT a poncho! It has sleeves! do not mistake a cape for one.
Do not wear it with a long flowy skirt, its too many trends in one and does not look good together. Here are some awesome samples of this up-and-coming trend

Whats Hot, Whats Not --Back to school shoe edition

Imitation TOMS, Nuff said

What is up with this hideous flats being converted to heels style?

This looks like my brothers special occasion shoes dyed red with cutouts

These look like those shoes you see those incredibly unfashionable business women wear on the Q Train

I was checking up on my daily blog reads and came across a hideous spread on TeenVogue.com. Usually, I love their style and the way they do their spreads, but this article on the latest back to school shoe trends is horrendous. The article inspired me to post my own "Whats hot whats not" on back to school shoes. Here are some of the cutest and ugliest shoe trends that I have seen so far.

Material Girl isn't so Vogue

We all heard the hype about Lourdes (Lola) Leon's (Madonnas daughter)collection for Macy's called Material Girl, named after the infamous Madonna song. The collection is fashion forward and not the least bit tacky and is based off of Lolas love of fashion and her moms wardrobe. The only problem? Its made for girls size 4 and under. The collection has military inspired pieces, a Herve Leger inspired bandage skirt, sequined bandeau's, sweaters and tees for a casual school day with some edge, and my favorite, a studded motorcycle jacket. The greatest? The fact that Taylor Momsen is the model for the line and that she isn't so punk throughout the lookbook.
My verdict: the collection is great for back to school and mostly affordable, but I a size 4 can barely fit into some out the clothes. 3/5 Stars

Going MAD for QVC

Janie Bryant, costume designer for 1960’s set, fashion forward show, Mad Men is launching her own collection for QVC. She is following in the footsteps of Rachel Zoe, Isaac Mizrahi, Erin Fetherston, among many other recognizable designers. The collection will appear on QVC on September 29th and is called “Mod by Janie Bryant”. But don’t fret just yet! Select items from the line will be available on the QVC website next month. The collection contains 20 pieces, as well as handbags and accessories, and iis based on animal prints (which if it is not done right can be extremely tacky) with silhouettes based on the1950’s and 60’s. Duh! Wouldn’t you think that (A) because it’s called Mod by Janie Bryant that the collection is based on the Mod period? and (B) She’s the Mad Men costume designer, so why would we think that she would get away from that when the costumes on the show are doing so well?
All apparel and accessories are priced anywhere from $26-$138.
Janie Bryant revealed a little info about her spring collection, it’s all about the lace, eyelet and fresh colors. I think that lace will be out by next summer and that those are classic summer concepts, why not think up something new? what are your thoughts?
